The Phenology Project, launched in September 2019, currently monitors seasonal changes in trees and shrubs species in Washington Square Park, City Hall Park, and Tompkins Square Park.
The project goals are:
create baseline data about woody plant phenology
contribute to studies about urban phenology
provide community science opportunities for park users and neighbors
offer a non-traditional way of developing relationships with plants
demonstrate proof of concept: neighborhood parks as places for the experience of nature and where science can happen
